1) What is the Indian Health Center?

The Indian Health Center (IHC) is a Non-Profit Community Health Clinic, Patient Centered Health Home Medical Clinic, and Wellness Center for all who live in Santa Clara County. We provide Medical Care, Dental Care, WIC Services, Counseling and Mental Health Service, and additionally we support our Santa Clara County Community through our Community Wellness and Outreach Department. 2) Do I have to be Native American/American Indian to be a patient at the Indian Health Center?

No. The IHC provides service to peoples of all ethnicities and races.


3) Do I need insurance to be seen at the Indian Health Center Medical Clinic?

No. You do not need health insurance to be seen at the Indian Health Center. However we do take Medi-Cal and some other insurances.

The Indian Health Center does provides Low-Cost, Sliding Scale Healthcare services based on your income level. The IHC can also help you find health coverage through Covered California. And, if you are an American Indian you may be eligible to enroll in our Ross Gritts program to help with the costs of medical or dental care.


4) Are there American Indian Doctors at the Indian Health Center?

There are currently no American Indian Physicians at the Indian health center. However, we do have American Indian counselors and staff to help you navigate our care and health home.


5) Does the Indian Health Center provide Holistic Healing Services?

The Indian Health Center does provide some holistic healing services. Please visit our CWO and Counseling Departments to learn more about what non-western medicinal services we provide.


6) Does the Indian Health Center provide Traditional American Indian Healing Services?

The Indian Health Center does provide some traditional healing services. Please contact our counseling department for more information.


7) What type of services does the Indian Health Center provide?

The IHC Provides a wide array of health care services. As a Patient Centered Health Home, we are our patients' "home" for all their medical needs. From our Medical Site, we provide great primary medical care with the help of our physicians and their assistants, who can refer our patients to our Dental Department for general dental needs, to outside specialists if needed, to WIC for family care, nutrition and development, and to our Wellness Center for Counseling, youth programming, elder care, and Diabetes prevention and management. We are an integrated community health care clinic here to serve you!


8) How much does it cost to come to the Indian Health Center?

If you are uninsured, the Indian Health Center has a sliding scale fee system, which determines cost based on your household income. We try to make healthcare as affordable as possible for those in need of healthcare services—but we are not a free clinic.

Also, our staff can help you enroll in Covered California if you do not have insurance, and would like to begin the enrollment process.

Lastly, if you already have insurance, payment may vary depending on what type of insurance you have.


9) Does the Indian Health Center provide health insurance?

No. The IHC does not provide health care insurance. However, we can help you enroll in Covered California. And, if you are an American Indian, you may be eligible to enroll in our Ross Gritts program which can help pay for you healthcare costs.


10) Can the Indian Health Center help me find my tribe?

The Indian Health Center can help with directing you to your tribal nation's resources, please contact our American Indian Patient Relations Staff member (Stephanie Reynolds) for more information.


11) Where is the Indian Health Center?

The Main site of the Indian Health Center is located at 133 Meridian Ave. San Jose CA 95125. However, if you would like to find one of out other locations, please visit our LOCATIONS section of our website.


12) Can the Indian Health Center help me find Health Insurance?

Yes! The Indian Health Center has specially trained staff certified to help people enroll in Covered California. Please contact the below staff for information and resources:

14) Is Indian Health Center Online?

Yes! You can find us at www.indianhealthcenter.org, or on our Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and Blog. We are currently working on a patient portal, so that our patients can make appointments, contact their doctor, ask for prescription refills, and check their medical records online.


15) How long has the Indian Health Center Existed?

The Indian Health Center of Santa Clara Valley was established in 1977 to help American Indians find health and housing services. Since then, it has grown to be a comprehensive primary care clinic complete with dental care, medical care, WIC, counseling, and wellness services. Its doors have been open to everyone in the Silicon Valley who needs health and wellness services since 1993 when the IHC became a Federally Qualified Health Center.
