What is Medi-Cal?
- Health care coverage for qualifying persons who live in California and who have income and resources below established limits.
Who qualifies for Medi-Cal?
- Persons age 65 or older
- Persons who are under 21 years of age
- Certain adults between 21 and 65 years of age, if they have minor children living with them
- Persons who are blind or disabled
- Pregnant women
- Persons receiving nursing home care
- Certain refugees, asylees, Cuban/Haitian entrants
Do I have to be a U.S. citizen to qualify for Medi-Cal?
- No you do not. Documented and undocumented aliens may be eligible for Medi-Cal. Some persons may receive pregnancy related and emergency services only; others are eligible for full Medi-Cal benefits depending on their alien status.
When Medi-Cal says “a minor child” what does it mean?
- A child married or unmarried under age 21 years of age living in your home or away at school.
How do I apply for Medi-Cal coverage?
To Apply for Medi-Cal, there are two options either you can go to the local Social Services Office located at 1919 Senter Road, San Jose, CA 95112 and complete the application. The second option is to contact Linda Arambula, our Eligibility Coordinator and complete an application with her. Upon Completion of the application, she will then schedule an appointment with the Eligibility In-take Worker who comes to our facility to help our patients enroll into the Medi-Cal health care coverage.
